What is L.O.L and P.T.D insurance?
L.O.L stands for Loss Of Life, and P.T.D stands for Permanent Total Disability. In the event of an incident causing death or permanent disability of the insured party, a lump sum capital is paid to the insured or their beneficiaries.
Is there a minimum threshold for total disability compensation?
No. The insurance compensates from the first percentage of disability without a minimum incapacity threshold.
What is the difference between an incident due to an accident or illness?
An ACCIDENT is a sudden event during the contract duration where the cause is beyond the insured’s control and causes physical injury. ILLNESS is a damage to health not caused by an accident, with objective symptoms established by a medical practitioner.
What is Temporary Total Disability (TTD)?
When an accident or illness occurs during a work contract causing a temporary stoppage and loss of income, TTD insurance supports the sailor’s salary during this period.
Can I subscribe individually to TTD?
No. Daily allowances (TTD) are strictly linked to a labor contract. The compensation is typically paid to the shipowner.
How does the Healthcare Insurance work?
The insurance works like a combination of social security and private health insurance. You are covered in your daily life both at home and at work, 24/7.
Is there a waiting period?
No. You are covered from the very first day of the insurance subscription!
Am I covered in my country of residence?
Yes. The insurance is global. This is not simple travel insurance but global social coverage. For example, if you subscribed in Euros but receive care in Australia, you can choose to be reimbursed in Euros or Australian Dollars.
Can I go to any doctor or specialist?
Yes, provided they are accredited by the country where they practice. If you are unsure, we advise going to a hospital.
Are prescribed medications reimbursed?
Yes, all medications prescribed by a doctor are reimbursed.
Is alternative medicine covered?
Yes, specifically with the ‘PERFECT’ plan. This includes Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Acupuncturists, and Chiropractors.
Do I have to pay medical costs in advance?
Yes, for ambulatory medicine (doctors, specialists, optical, etc.). However, for hospitalization (more than one night), you do NOT pay in advance. The hospital team will contact the insurance company directly with your insurance card.
What are the bases for reimbursement?
The insurance company bases reimbursements on actual costs. If a procedure costs 50, reimbursement is based on 50. You are reimbursed 100% or 80% of this amount depending on the formula you subscribed to.
What are the reimbursement delays?
Reimbursements typically take between 48 hours to 2 weeks.
