Poncin Yachts was a French yacht builder established in 1976 by Gilbert Poncin, initially distinguishing itself in the sailing yacht market with prioritization of innovation and production quality[3]. In the early 2000s, following leadership by Olivier Poncin—who had previously led Dufour—the company launched the Harmony brand, focusing on sailing yachts that aimed to combine industrial-grade efficiency with high-quality craftsmanship, inspired by manufacturing approaches from the automotive sector[4][5]. The shipyard invested substantially in robotization and modern production facilities in France. Poncin Yachts became especially known for the Harmony series, which consisted of well-regarded sailing monohulls popular among charter companies and private owners for their build quality and value[3][5]. In 2003, Poncin Yachts acquired the Catana shipyard, entering the high-performance catamaran market[4][5]. By around 2014, Poncin Yachts underwent a rebranding and merged with its Catana operations, leading to the formation of Catana Group, now known for Bali Catamarans and Catana catamarans[2][6]. As such, Poncin Yachts as a distinct brand is defunct, but its legacy continues under Catana Group—now one of the leading manufacturers of multihull yachts globally[2][5][6]. Poncin Yachts' key milestones include launching the Harmony monohull series, adopting innovative manufacturing methods, and achieving a successful transition into the catamaran sector following the acquisition of Catana. Its reputation in the industry rests on its contribution to industrializing French yacht building, pioneering affordable yet high-quality sailing yachts, and catalyzing trends in multihull development under the Catana and Bali names. The main construction locations were in France, notably La Rochelle and Canet-en-Roussillon. Poncin Yachts specialized in sailing yachts, with expansion into performance-oriented catamarans through its group transformation.
